Stephen HowardStephen Howard, Principal

It is with great interest and enthusiasm that I look forward to serving the students, families, staff and community at Johnsontown Road Elementary. I look forward to engaging all stakeholders in the learning process to ensure we have positive learning outcomes for all our students. Mr. Howard has provided educational leadership while teaching at 5 different elementary schools (Tully, Goldsmith, Layne, Wilkerson and Greenwood) for Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS). He was the Assistant Principal at Dunn Elementary, prior to becoming the principal at Dixie Elementary School in 2013. Mr. Howard is a Louisville native and has an undergraduate degree from University of Louisville and a Master of Arts in Teaching and Rank I from Bellarmine University. He also has a Masters in Instructional Leadership and School Administration from Bellarmine University. Combining the last thirteen years in education and his YMCA career you will find a leader that has focused on modeling a results oriented leadership style. Mr. Howard believes that the school principal serves as a catalyst for instructional leadership and innovation in the school community. His leadership style involves a collaborative approach, empowering all teachers and staff in the systemic change process that strengthens school culture and utilizes Professional Learning Communities (PLC) to improve student achievement. As a lifelong Valley Station resident, I am very pleased to be a part of the Johnsontown Road Elementary faculty and staff. I am a graduate of Holy Cross High School where I went on to Oakland City University in Indiana and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education, Masters degree from Indiana University Southeast in School Administration and I recently completed my Rank I from Bellarmine University in Curriculum and Instruction. For the first eleven years of my career, I was the computer teacher at Conway Middle School where I also served as the Athletic Director among other roles. I have three wonderful children with two of them attending Johnsontown with me in kinder and second grade.

Parents, teachers, support staff, community, and administration all have important roles to encourage children to become active, lifelong learners. It is my sincere desire to provide expanded opportunities for our students to be successful students and citizens.

This is my 11th year at Johnsontown Road Elementary (JRE)  and I believe our community is the best place for students to learn and grow. I am looking forward to having a great school year and meeting all of the wonderful families with whom I will be working this year. Please feel free to stop in and say hello, as my door is always open. I would like to wish you a terrific upcoming school year. If there is anything I can assist you with, please let me know.

Brianne Wolf-SchultenBrianne Wolf-Schulten.,
School Counselor

I graduated from Murray State University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education. After graduating I went to Istanbul, Turkey to teach P.E. When returning to the US I went back to Murray State and earned a Masters of Education in Learning and Behavior Disabilities. I then started teaching 4th-6th grades Conservation and Science. In 2014 I started teaching Health at Southern High School in JCPS.

I am from Louisville, Kentucky. I love Kentucky and all it has to offer. I have a wonderful and supportive husband who is also an employee of JCPS. We have been married since May 2019. We have a fur baby. A cat named Ty who is crazy, wild, and overweight :) I have two brothers and two sisters. I have over 40 nieces and nephews. My grandma is my best friend, she is 90 years young and has an inspirational personality.

My favorite part about being the school counselor is working with the students. I try to hold guidance classes twice a month. During guidance, we discuss such topics as kindness, bullying, self-esteem, transition to middle school, and grief. I also enjoy working with small groups of students. We may read a good book or talk about how to improve our behavior.

I can provide assistance in special education services, statewide testing, transition to middle school, middle school application process, and advance placement testing.

I have an open-door policy and can be reached between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feel free to call me with your questions or concerns.
