Vicky Johnston, NBCT, Robotics

I live in Southern Indiana with my daughter Rosie. I received my B.A. in Science from Hanover College and my Master of Arts in Teaching from Bellarmine University. I taught Sixth Grade Science for five years in Raleigh, North Carolina. In 2006, I moved back to the Louisville area and started teaching Robotics at Meyzeek. I love teaching Robotics! I get to “play” with LEGO Robots all day. My favorite part of teaching Robotics is how students are learning the Engineering Process in a very hands-on, problem solving environment. Perseverance is the key to Engineering.

Brad Jones, Orchestra

syllabusSuzie Kinman, Orchestra Director

I have been teaching Orchestra at Meyzeek for a total of 21 years and in JCPS for 26 years. Also, my Orchestras have consistently won Distinguished Ratings at KMEA Orchestra festival, since 1994. I also freelance as a professional flutist and piccoloist in the Louisville Area.

syllabusKyle Mahnesmith, Physical Education (PE)

I am from Northeast Indiana, where I graduated from Ball State University. It is my goal in PE class that every student can discover at least one physical activity that they enjoy, and understand the importance of physical activity when it comes to their health.

syllabusJennifer O’Daniel, Spanish

I grew up in Louisville and am happy to be living here again and teaching at Meyzeek. I earned my BA in Spanish from Morehead State University, my MA in Hispanic Literature from Indiana University in Bloomington and my MA in Teaching from U of L. I taught at IUB for five years before deciding that it would be more fun and rewarding to teach younger students, and it most definitely has been!

syllabusMichele Randolph, French

A native of Port-au-Prince Haiti, I enjoy teaching French and learning about different cultures. I think of Meyzeek as a mini United Nations because of the rich diversity found in the student body. I have 2 adult children and this year I celebrate the birth of my first granddaughter Joelle. This is my 27th year as a French or Spanish teacher at Meyzeek. Vive La Diversité!

syllabusKatherine Southerland, Health

I grew up in Lexington, so yes Kentucky is my team. My mother was my role model growing up but a mentor in teaching was my Middle School coach Mr. Lonnie Leland and my coaching idol is Pat Summitt. I have coached girls’ basketball at Meyzeek, J-Town and Manual High School. I have taught at Meyzeek for 13 years. I earned my BA in Physical Education from EKU, I also have a Teacher Certification in Exceptional Children Education and a Master’s degree in Health Education both from the University of Louisville. I am the lead on the school wide Practical Living/Career Studies Program Review. I love teaching middle school and feel that these three years are a pivotal time when a child can realize the importance of an education and that their potential, if utilized, is limitless.

Buffy Sexton, Technology/Project Lead the Way (PLTW)

I have taught in JCPS for 14 years and at Meyzeek for 12. I earned my BGS from Indiana University and my MAT from the University of Louisville. I am an avid fan of using technology in education as a resource, not replacement for teachers. There just is no technology out there that can replace all this awesomeness. My approach to teaching is that my class should be rigorous and challenging but still enjoyable and fun! And I am really, really, really good at what I do.

syllabusChelsea Sexton, Graphic Art
