History of FRCs

FRCs were started in Kentucky schools as a part of the KERA (Kentucky Education Reform Act) in 1990. The primary goal of these centers is to remove nonacademic barriers to learning as a means to enhance student academic success.

Mission

The FRC’s mission is to enhance students’ abilities to succeed in school by developing and sustaining partnerships that promote:

What are we?

FRCs are designed to help remove barriers to student learning. Each center assists students and families through programs and referrals to outside agencies and by partnering with groups in and outside the school. Programs and services are determined by the needs of the population served, available resources, location, and other local characteristics. The centers work with families to improve students’ attendance, to decrease problems with behavior or suspensions, to offer academic support, to deal with mental/physical health issues, and to offer parent support and assistance. All students and families are served regardless of income.

The Layne FRC offers the following programs and activities:

The FRC also offers assistance to families in times of need. All of our services are based on your child’s or family's situation and will remain completely confidential. Please see us for assistance with the following:

Many of the programs and activities of the FRC are created by the FRC Advisory Council. This council is a group of parents, teachers, and community representatives who meet bimonthly to review our budget and programs. If you would like to be a part of this group, see us for more information.

We are glad your family is a part of the Layne Family. If you have additional questions or for specific information on how the FRC can assist your family or child, call the FRC at 485-8102 or call the school at 485-8290. You also can e-mail Ms. Skinner at michelle.skinner@jefferson.kyschools.us.
