Spanish Immersion

In the Spanish Immersion Program, students study 50% of their day in Spanish and 50% in English. Students have formal instruction in math and science in Spanish, accompanied by Spanish literacy. The other 50% of the school day, students learn English literacy and social studies in English. The goal of the immersion program is to create bilingual and biliterate students who read, write, and speak in Spanish. Students who begin their immersion education in kindergarten and follow the program through fifth grade leave Hawthorne with a strong acquisition of Spanish.

All incoming kindergarten - 4th grade students are automatically enrolled in the immersion program.
