At Field, each student gets what he or she needs. We believe that all students can and will be successful. Keeping with the district’s vision, we give students the tools needed to reach their full potential and contribute to our society throughout their lives. Because we firmly believe that prepared teachers create prepared students, we are proud to be a Professional Learning Community school. We believe that these collegial teacher groups are the key to all students experiencing success at all levels and are the foundation for developing competitive mathematical and literary skills. Field also offers Advance Program courses for our gifted fourth and fifth graders and enrichment classes for Primary students who have been identified for the talent pool. In order for our students to be both academically and socially fit, we can’t do it without you. Our goals can only be accomplished when we work as a team: parents/guardians, grandparents, students, teachers, the administration, and the community.

Our vision is to work collaboratively using a guaranteed, viable, and relevant curriculum to ensure all will be proficient, well-rounded, and have a thirst for learning in a safe and protective environment.
Named for Emmet Field (1841-1909), a Crescent Hill resident and prominent Jefferson County judge, Emmet Field Elementary School opened on September 15, 1915 with five teachers and 155 students. It was the first one-story school in the city of Louisville and was one of two public schools to serve the Crescent Hill community during the early twentieth century. In 1970, the school was remodeled as the student body continued to grow. Field students are able to step forward in this technological age even as a bit of nostalgia can be seen in the original hardwood floors, doors, and arch work that greets the students each day. Located in the vibrant and eclectic Crescent Hill area, Field's neighbors include many actively involved local businesses and community organizations. Field's student body is diverse. Because several parents have moved to our neighborhood to attend Southern Baptist Seminary (Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) and the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminaries, Field has the honor of educating students from towns and cities throughout the United States and around the world.
