Welcome, new and returning students and families, to the 2016-17 school year at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School. This promises to be a year of great learning, growth, and fun at our school. Our vision at King Elementary is for all students to demonstrate academic proficiency, develop individual talents, and display leadership throughout our school and community. Our mission guiding our work is to provide rigorous, engaging instruction and remove barriers to learning so students believe in their own ability to achieve success.

Our diverse population continues to enrich our students and staff through shared experiences and relationship building. For our returning families and those new to King, we encourage you to become involved with the activities of our school through the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), School-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council, and volunteering to participate in classroom and field trip activities. Additionally, students are able to participate in various academic teams, sports, clubs, and events.

Community members are encouraged to participate and become part of our school family as we work to serve the Shawnee and West End communities. Together, we can ensure that the dreams of every child at King Elementary come true.

At King, we work diligently to ensure that students receive the benefits of our collaborative work, providing high-quality instruction aligned to state standards and a school community of academic excellence, respect, trust, and leadership.

We thank you for choosing King Elementary as your child’s educational foundation. We will honor our commitment to academic excellence and social responsibility and our partnership with families in preparing students for the future.
